Koepfer upsets Tiafoe at Mexican Open

German Dominik Koepfer moved into the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open by defeating American Frances Tiafoe, the No 8 seed, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 at the Princess Mundo Imperial Resort in Acapulco on Wednesday night.

Koepfer, ranked No 58, will play the winner of the match between American qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic and Dane Holger Rune, the second seed, next.

In the previous round of the Acapulco tournament, the German won against French qualifier Terence Atmane (6-4, 4-6, 6-0).

Tiafoe, ranked No 16, beat Australian Max Purcell (4-6, 6-3, 6-0) in the previous round of the Acapulco tournament.
