Korea Open: Nishioka moves into final, ending Kovacevic’s fairy tale

Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka advanced to the final of the Korea Open by winning against American lucky loser Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at the Seoul Olympic Park on Saturday.

Nishioka, ranked No 56, will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 4 seed, next.

The Japanese defeated No 5 seed Daniel Evans (6-2, 7-6 (3)), Taro Daniel (6-2, 6-4) and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the top seed (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds, Kovacevic, ranked No 222, won against Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-4), Chun-Hsin Tseng (7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-2) and Mackenzie McDonald (4-6, 6-3, 6-2).
