Los Cabos Open: Thompson advances to final after epic win over top seed Zverev
Jordan Thompson edged out Alexander Zverev 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (2). He’ll face Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 4 seed, for the title
Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 8 seed, edged out German Alexander Zverev, the top seed, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (2) in three hours and 40 minutes to advance to the final of the Los Cabos Open at the Cabo del Mar Sports Center.
Thompson, ranked No 40, will face Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 4 seed, next.
The Australian defeated Mexican wildcard Ernesto Escobedo (6-4, 6-3), American qualifier Emilio Nava (7-6 (5), 6-3) and American Alex Michelsen (0-6, 7-6 (1), 7-5) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Zverev, ranked No 6, won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (6-3, 6-0) and Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (6-3, 6-4).
