American Brandon Nakashima, the No 8 seed, defeated Argentinian Diego Schwartzman 7-5, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Lyon Open at Parc de la Tête d’or on Monday.
Nakashima, ranked No 52, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech and South African qualifier Lloyd Harris next.
