Madrid Masters: Cerundolo moves into last 16

Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 21 seed, reached the last 16 of the Madrid Masters by winning against American Tommy Paul, the No 15 seed, 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-2 at the Caja Magica on Sunday evening.

Cerundolo, ranked No 22, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Denis Shapovalov and German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed, next.

The Argentinian beat Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (6-2, 7-6 (5)) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Paul, ranked No 16, edged out Slovak qualifier Lukas Klein (6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-4).
