Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 3 seed, reached the last 4 of the Marseille Open by winning against Chinese Zhizhen Zhang 6-4, 6-1 at the Palais des sports on Friday evening.
Khachanov, ranked No 18, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the second seed, next.
In the previous round of the Marseille tournament, the Russian beat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (6-2, 6-2).
Zhang, ranked No 50, edged out Italian lucky loser Giulio Zeppieri (6-7 (7), 6-1, 6-4) and won against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Marseille tournament.
