Metz Open: Wild card Herbert through to first quarter-final since 2021
Pierre-Hugues Herbert won against Gijs Brouwer 7-5, 6-4 on Wednesday and will face the winner of the match between Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the No 8 seed, and Frenchman Luca Van Assche in the next round

French wild card Pierre-Hugues Herbert advanced to the quarter-finals of the Metz Open by beating Dutch lucky loser Gijs Brouwer 7-5, 6-4 at Arènes de Metz on Wednesday afternoon.
Herbert, ranked No 344, will play the winner of the match between Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the No 8 seed, and Frenchman Luca Van Assche next.
In the previous round of the Metz tournament, the Frenchman won against wildcard Arthur Cazaux (7-6 (7), 6-4).
