American Learner Tien won against Ukrainian lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko 6-1, 6-4 to move into the final of the Metz Open at the Arènes de Metz on Friday evening.
Tien, ranked No 38, will play Englishman Cameron Norrie, the No 7 seed, for his first ATP title. It’s his second ATP Tour final after Beijing (lost to Sinner in final). He is the second teenager to reach multiple ATP Tour finals in 2025 after Fonseca (Buenos Aires, Basel). He will jump to rank n°31 after the event.
Norrie will ply his 16th ATP Tour final (5-10), first since Metz last year, that he lost to Bonzi. The Brit is the second player in tournament history to reach back-to-back Metz finals after Tsonga in 2013.
The 19-year-old American defeated Italian Matteo Berrettini (5-7, 6-2, 6-3), Tunisian lucky loser Moez Echargui (7-6 (3), 6-3) and French wildcard Ugo Blanchet (6-3, 6-3) on the way.
It’s the end of an incredible adventure for Sachko, ranked No 222, who won against French qualifier Clement Tabur (6-4, 3-6, 6-4), Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 3 seed (7-5, 3-6, 7-5) and Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (7-6 (10), 6-3).
