Mexican Open: McDonald beats Nakashima to advance to quarter-finals

The American will face No 7 seed Tommy Paul in the next round

American Mackenzie McDonald beat compatriot Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open at the Princess Mundo Imperial in Acapulco on Wednesday.

In the previous round of the Acapulco Open, the American won against Italian lucky loser Luciano Darderi (6-4, 6-2), who came in as a replacement after world No 2 and top seed Carlos Alcaraz pulled out of the tournament with an injury.

Nakashima, ranked No 49 in the world, won against German Daniel Altmaier (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) during the first round of the Acapulco Open.

McDonald, ranked No 62 in the ATP rankings, will face seventh seed Tommy Paul, who advanced when his opponent Michael Mmoh retired during the second set of their match due to injury.
