Czech Jiri Lehecka won against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (4), 6-4 to move into the last 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.

A fine season continues for the Czech – he has now won 16 (16-7) matches in 2023, already three more than he managed across the whole of 2022.

Lehecka, ranked No 42 and currently 15th in the ATP’s Race to Turin standings, will face the winner of the match between American Taylor Fritz, the No 8 seed, and Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka next.

In the previous round of the Monte-Carlo tournament, the 21-year-old Czech beat Finnish lucky loser Emil Ruusuvuori (6-1, 7-5).

Dimitrov, ranked No 25, defeated American Ben Shelton (6-1, 3-6, 6-3) in the previous round of the Monte-Carlo tournament.
