American Frances Tiafoe, the No 14 seed, edged out Serb Miomir Kecmanovic 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (5) to move into the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters at the Monte-Carlo Country Club on Tuesday evening.
Tiafoe, ranked No 17, will face Australian Alexei Popyrin next.
