Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 14 seed, beat American Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-1 to reach the last 16 of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA on Wednesday evening.
Bautista Agut, ranked No 18, will play Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 4 seed, next.
The 34-year-old Spaniard won against American qualifier Marcos Giron (7-6 (5), 6-3) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Coupe Rogers, Brooksby, ranked No 46, won against Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-2, 6-3).
