Munich Open: Impressive Shelton reaches semi-finals

American Ben Shelton, the second seed, defeated Italian Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Munich Open at the MTTC Iphitos complex on Friday.

Shelton, ranked No 15, will face Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 5 seed, next.

Earlier in the tournament, the 22-year-old American edged out Croat qualifier Borna Gojo (4-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3)) and won against Dutch lucky loser Botic van de Zandschulp (7-6 (1), 6-3).

Darderi, ranked No 47, beat Australian lucky loser Christopher O’Connell (7-6 (3), 7-6 (3)) and edged out Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Munich tournament.
