Munich Open: Defending champion Rune defeats Huesler to reach semi-finals

Holger Rune beat Huesler 6-4, 7-6 (3) and will play the winner of the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff in the next round

Dane Holger Rune, the second seed, defeated Swiss qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-4, 7-6 (3) to reach the semi-finals of the Munich Open at the MTTC Iphitos complex.

Rune, ranked No 12, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 5 seed, and German Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 4 seed, next.

The 20-year-old Dane won against Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-4, 6-2) in the previous round of the Munich tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, Huesler, ranked No 223, beat German wildcard Marko Topo (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) and German Yannick Hanfmann (6-2, 6-4).
