Madrid Masters: Shelton sets Bublik Clash

American Ben Shelton, the No 14 seed, reached the third round of the Madrid Masters by winning against Tomas Machac 6-0, 6-2 at the Caja Magica on Saturday evening.
The American, this year’s Houston champion, stretched his current winning streak to five, with all of those victories coming on clay. The American was 2-7 on the surface prior to this season (now 7-7).
Shelton, ranked No 15, will play Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 17 seed, next.
Machac, ranked No 50, beat Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6-4, 1-6, 6-2) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
