Italian Marco Cecchinato beat Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 3 seed, 7-5, 7-6 (5) to reach the semi-finals of the Portuguese Open at Clube de Ténis do Estoril on Friday.
Cecchinato, ranked No 96, will face the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 6 seed, and Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles next.
The Italian won against Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 7 seed (6-3, 7-6 (8)) and Fabio Fognini (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Estoril Open, Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 24, defeated Frenchman Luca Van Assche (6-3, 7-5).
