Marco Cecchinato beat Fabio Fognini 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Open at Clube de Ténis do Estoril on Wednesday afternoon.
Cecchinato, ranked No 96, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Luca Van Assche and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 3 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, Marco Cecchinato won against Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 7 seed (6-3, 7-6 (8)).
Fognini, ranked No 97, defeated qualifier Alessandro Giannessi (6-2, 6-1) in the previous round of the Estoril Open.
