Pune Open: Karatsev books spot in semi-finals

Russian Aslan Karatsev, the No 8 seed, beat Spaniard Pedro Martinez 6-1, 6-2 to move into the semi-finals of the Pune Open at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Complex on Thursday night.

Karatsev, ranked No 59, will play the winner of the match between Croat Marin Čilić, the top seed, and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor next.

The Russian won against Spaniard Pablo Andujar (6-1, 6-3) and Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven (7-6 (7), 7-6 (8)) ahead of his victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Martinez, ranked No 62, defeated Indian qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan (3-6, 7-5, 6-3) and Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 4 seed (3-6, 6-1, 6-3).
