Rio Open: Hanfmann goes down to Navone in second round

Mariano Navone won against Yannick Hanfmann 6-1, 6-2 on Thursday. He’ll face Brazilian wildcard Joao Fonseca in the next round

Argentinian qualifier Mariano Navone moved into the quarter-finals of the Rio Open by beating German Yannick Hanfmann 6-1, 6-2 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday.

Navone, ranked No 113, will face Brazilian wildcard Joao Fonseca next.

Ahead of his win today, the 22-year-old Argentinian won against Federico Coria (1-6, 6-4, 6-2).

Hanfmann, ranked No 56, edged out Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 3 seed (6-1, 1-6, 7-5) in the previous round of the Rio tournament.
