Qualifying for the 40th Rolex Paris Masters got underway on Saturday, with seven places in the main draw at stake. Thirteen of the fourteen first-round matches have been completed, and Benjamin Bonzi is the last Frenchman standing after knocking out second seed Tallon Griekspoor. The final qualifying round is played on Sunday, November 1.

Bonzi vs Hanfmann: France’s last hope

French wildcard Benjamin Bonzi, ranked No 100, beat second seed Tallon Griekspoor 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3 in 2 hours and 11 minutes. He is now the only French player left in qualifying.

He will face ninth seed Yannick Hanfmann, who beat another French wildcard, Felix Balshaw, 7-6(3) 6-3 in 1 hour and 28 minutes.

Tirante vs Bellucci: two seeds, one place

Third seed Thiago Agustin Tirante had to fight to open his campaign. The Argentine dropped the first set against American Zachary Svajda before turning the match around to win 3-6 6-1 6-4.

Thirteenth seed Mattia Bellucci needed 1 hour and 37 minutes to see off Pablo Carreno Busta. The Italian dominated the opening set 6-1, then held his nerve in a tight second set, which he took 7-6(3). Only one of the two seeds will reach the main draw.

Hijikata vs Kopriva: Gaston’s conqueror next

The first seed to fall in Paris qualifying was Jaime Faria. Australia’s Rinky Hijikata beat the seventh seed from Portugal 6-3 6-4 in just 65 minutes.

He will face eleventh seed Vit Kopriva, who knocked out French wildcard Hugo Gaston on Center Court. The Czech won 6-4 7-6(1) in 1 hour and 53 minutes.

Borges vs Molcan: Mannarino out

Adrian Mannarino won the first set against fourth seed Nuno Borges, but the Portuguese came back to win 4-6 6-1 7-5 in 2 hours and 16 minutes.

Borges will face Alex Molcan, who beat tenth seed Daniel Altmaier 6-4 7-6(1) in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Cerundolo vs Kecmanovic: a seeds’ clash

Fifth seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo beat Aleksandar Kovacevic 7-6(5) 6-3 in 1 hour and 32 minutes. Eighth seed Miomir Kecmanovic needed two hours and three sets to get past James Duckworth, 6-4 2-6 6-4.

Baez vs Machac: top seed tested

Top seed Sebastian Baez beat Damir Dzumhur 7-6(4) 7-5 in 2 hours and 6 minutes. He will face Tomas Machac, who knocked out fourteenth seed Martin Landaluce 6-4 6-3 in 1 hour and 27 minutes.

Sonego awaits Vallejo or Dimitrov

Lorenzo Sonego needed almost three hours to beat twelfth seed Jaume Munar 6-7(3) 6-3 6-4. The Italian awaits the winner of Adolfo Daniel Vallejo and Grigor Dimitrov, the last first-round match still to be completed.

By reaching the final qualifying round, all first-round winners are guaranteed €12,920 and 16 ATP ranking points. The seven qualifiers will earn 30 points and join the main draw, which starts on Monday, November 2.

Who will face a qualifier in the main draw?

The seven qualifiers will slot into six first-round matches. Luciano Darderi, in Zverev’s quarter, and Casper Ruud, in Medvedev’s quarter, both open against a qualifier. The fourth quarter, headed by Alcaraz, holds three of them: French wildcards Kyrian Jacquet and Titouan Droguet each face a qualifier, as does No 11 seed Taylor Fritz. In Shelton’s quarter, two qualifiers will meet each other, which guarantees that at least one qualifier reaches the second round.
