Shanghai Masters: Machac knocks out Paul in last 16

No 30 seed Tomas Machac moved into the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters by winning against American Tommy Paul, the No 11 seed, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Wednesday night.
Machac, ranked No 33, will play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, next.
Tomas Machac edged out Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4) and defeated Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic (6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Shanghai tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Paul, ranked No 13, beat Italian Fabio Fognini (6-1, 6-3) and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No 19 seed (6-7 (2), 7-6 (6), 6-2).
