‘My name is Fabian Marozsan – hi, guys!’ Conqueror of Alcaraz says his life won’t change

Fabian Marozsan had to start at the very beginning when he spoke to journalists in Rome

Fabian Marozsan was probably not expecting to give a press conference in Rome. On Monday, the room was packed to hear his thoughts on just how he managed to beat Carlos Alcaraz.

The first question? “Can you tell us something about you?”

His response: “Okay, let’s start with the beginning. My name is Fabian Marozsan. Hi, guys!”

Amidst much laughter, the Hungarian qualifier was evidently enjoying a little of the limelight, but he was keen to emphasise that a single win against an incoming world No 1 would not change his career, which has so far been spent on the Futures and Challenger tours.

“Today everything was perfect for me. I mean, I don’t want to say more about this because I just played my game. Everything happened today. Everything was excellent.”

Marozsan: My dad and I will enjoy this moment

Pressed on whether his life would change, he rejected the idea: “I don’t think so because I just won one more match. I mean, I’m the same person.”

The 23-year-old started playing tennis as a five-year-old under the tutelage of his father – who, despite not being a player himself, continues to advise him. Marozsan senior is not in Rome, though, and his son was preparing to give him a call after the conclusion of the press conference.

“I still didn’t check my phone, yeah, because I was in the physio and the gym and everything.

“Yeah, I will call him after this press conference. I will say big thank you for him because he was next to me every time. Yeah, I will call him and say thank you and we will enjoy this moment.”
