Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 6 seed, beat Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-3, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Rome.
Ruud, ranked No 7, will face Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, next.
The Norwegian won against Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Italian Matteo Berrettini, the No 29 seed (7-5, 2-0 ret.) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Munar, ranked No 66, defeated Chilean qualifier Tomas Barrios Vera (4-6, 6-2, 7-5), American Ben Shelton, the No 12 seed (6-2, 6-1) and American Sebastian Korda, the No 22 seed (6-4, 6-2).
