Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 18 seed, won against Frenchman Alexandre Muller 6-2, 7-6 (3) to advance to the third round of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico on Friday afternoon.
Tsitsipas, ranked No 19, will face Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 13 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Italian Open, Muller, ranked No 39, edged out Jiri Lehecka (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)).
