San Diego Open: O’Connell advances to second round

Christopher O’Connell benefited from the abandonment of Jason Kubler (4-6, 6-3) on Wednesday evening and will face No 8 seed J.J. Wolf in the next round

Christopher O’Connell advanced to the second round of the San Diego Open when Jason Kubler retired at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Wednesday evening.

O’Connell, ranked No 130, led 4-6, 6-3 when Kubler, ranked No 99, pulled out on Wednesday evening at the Barnes Tennis Centre.

Christopher O’Connell will face No 8 seed J.J. Wolf next.
