World No 2 Carlos Alcaraz provided an encouraging update a day after he rolled over his ankle at the Rio Open and had to pull out of his match against Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro.

The Spaniard revealed that his injury was a grade II lateral sprain and that he should be fit for his exhibition match against Rafael Nadal in Las Vegas in early March and the Indian Wells Masters.

“I just had an MRI on my ankle after yesterday’s injury. After the meeting with my doctor @drlopezmartinez and my physiotherapists @juanjo_moreno_m and @sergiokine the diagnosis is a grade II lateral sprain. I have a sprain that will keep me out for a few days! See you in Las Vegas and Indian Wells!!”

The 20-year-old is slated to meet Nadal in what is being billed as the ‘Netflix Slam’ – an exhibition match on March 3 which will be aired live on Netflix.

Alcaraz, who has not reached a final on tour since Cincinnati in August, will be the defending champion in Indian Wells, having beaten Daniil Medvedev in the final last year.
