Swiss Open: Qualifier Medjedovic reaches semi-finals, Hanfmann latest to fall

Serb qualifier Hamad Medjedovic won against German Yannick Hanfmann, the No 4 seed, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Swiss Open at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Friday evening.

Medjedovic, ranked No 183, will face Argentinian Pedro Cachin next.

Earlier in the tournament, the 20-year-old Serb edged out Chinese Zhizhen Zhang, the No 5 seed (4-6, 6-1, 6-4) and beat Austrian Dominic Thiem (7-5, 2-6, 6-3).

Hanfmann, ranked No 46, edged out Daniel Altmaier (4-6, 6-2, 7-5) in the previous round of the Gstaad tournament.
