Toronto Masters: McDonald books spot in quarter-finals, beats Raonic in straight sets

American Mackenzie McDonald advanced to the quarter-finals of the Toronto Masters by defeating Canadian wildcard Milos Raonic 6-3, 6-3 at the Aviva Centre on Thursday evening.

McDonald, ranked No 59, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 3 seed, next.

Earlier in the tournament, the American won against Russian Aslan Karatsev (6-3, 6-4) and Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-3).

Milos Raonic won against American Frances Tiafoe, the No 9 seed (6-7 (12), 7-6 (4), 6-3) and Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel (6-4, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Canadian Open.
