German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann beat American Tommy Paul, the second seed, 7-6 (6), 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the US Clay Court Championships at River Oaks Country Club in Houston on Saturday evening.
Hanfmann, ranked No 134, will face the winner of the match between American Marcos Giron, the No 7 seed, and Czech qualifier Tomas Machac next.
The German won against Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) ahead of his victory.
