American Frances Tiafoe, the No 5 seed, beat Cameron Norrie 6-4, 7-6 (4) to move into the second round of the Vienna Open at the Wiener Stadthalle.
Tiafoe, ranked No 15, will face Italian Matteo Berrettini next.
