Australian Max Purcell won against Italian Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 6-1 to reach the second round of the Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Monday evening.
Purcell, ranked No 47, will play No 16 seed Emil Ruusuvuori next.
