Zverev beats Maroszan in Munich for first final since Melbourne

German Alexander Zverev, the top seed, reached the final of the Munich Open by beating Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 7-6 (3), 6-3 at the MTTC Iphitos complex on Saturday.

Zverev, ranked No 3, will play American Ben Shelton, the second seed, next. It’s his first final since the Australian Open in January, when he was beaten by Jannik Sinner in straight sets.

“It’s awesome (to be in the final),” Zverev said. “The entire week has been great. Everybody is really enjoying the weather as well as the new Centre Court. I am enjoying myself and hopefully I will have another great day tomorrow.”

Earlier in the tournament, the German won against Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-4, 6-1), wildcard Daniel Altmaier (6-3, 6-2) and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (6-7 (6), 7-6 (3), 6-4).

Marozsan, ranked No 77, defeated German wildcard Justin Engel (6-4, 6-1), Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 4 seed (6-4, 6-4) and Belgian Zizou Bergs (6-3, 7-6 (4)) in the previous rounds of the Munich tournament.
