Australian Open: Danilovic races past Samsonova

Serb Olga Danilovic moved into the third round of the Australian Open by defeating Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 25 seed, 6-1, 6-2 at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.

Danilovic, ranked No 55, will play the winner of the match between Belgian Elise Mertens and American Jessica Pegula, the No 7 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Serb won against Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-4, 6-4).

Samsonova, ranked No 21, beat Kamilla Rakhimova (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season.
