Australian Open: Gaston retires handing Lehecka third-round berth

No 24 seed Jiri Lehecka moved into the third round of the Australian Open when Frenchman Hugo Gaston retired at Melbourne Park on Wednesday night.
Lehecka, ranked No 29, led 6-3, 3-1 when Gaston, ranked No 81, pulled out on Wednesday at Melbourne Park.
Jiri Lehecka will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi and Italian lucky loser Francesco Passaro next.
Lehecka edged out Australian wildcard Li Tu (6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1)) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025, the Frenchman beat Australian wildcard Omar Jasika (6-2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2).
