Borges surprises Davidovich Fokina in round two of Australian Open

Portuguese Nuno Borges reached the third round of the Australian Open by beating Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 23 seed, 7-6 (7), 6-3, 6-3 at Melbourne Park on Thursday.

Borges, ranked No 69, will face the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 13 seed, and Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis next.

The Portuguese won against German Maximilian Marterer (7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-2) in the previous round.

In the previous round, Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 24, defeated Frenchman Constant Lestienne (6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (5)).
