Swiatek steamrolls Navarro to reach Australian Open semi-finals
The Pole defeated Emma Navarro in straight sets to set up a semi-final meeting with Madison Keys at Melbourne Park
World No. 2 Iga Swiatek defeated American Emma Navarro 6-1, 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday, January 22, to reach the 2025 Australian Open semi-finals.
Swiatek needed only 91 minutes to complete the win against Navarro. Despite first-serve landing struggles (53%), the Pole managed to win 82 percent of the points she played on her primary serve. She saved a break point, that her opponent created in the second set, and converted five to down the American in the quarter-finals.
The straight-set result meant the Pole is yet to drop a set in Melbourne this year.
The five-time Grand Slam champion will face another American in the form of Madison Keys for a spot in the final and it will only be her career’s second semi-final appearance at the Australian Open. She first reached the final-four in 2022.
In the previous rounds, Swiatek downed Czech Katerina Siniakova (6-3, 6-4), Slovak Rebecca Sramkova (6-0, 6-2), Brit Emma Raducanu (6-1, 6-0), and German Eva Lys (6-0, 6-1).
