UTS centre court under the rain

On Saturday morning, the rain poured down on the Mouratoglou Academy. The court due to host Ultimate Tennis Showdown soon became unusable for several hours. As the rain was still scheduled in the afternoon, organisers took the decision around 1 pm to postpone the start of UTS to Sunday.

Rain on the Mouratoglou Academy

The Mouratoglou Academy, home of the UTS, is located in Biot, near Nice, in the South of France. This region, the French Riviera, enjoys more than 300 days of sun a year. Unfortunately, Saturday, June 13 was not one of those.

Ultimate Tennis showdown will start on Sunday

Yesterday, some practice matches could be played on UTS Centre court. Including in the evening. Players will be back on this hard court tomorrow.

Players Waiting for Organisers' Decision Just before organisers announced that Day 1 was cancelled, Dustin Brown was waiting on a sofa inside the Academy with his friend and coach. Players could nonetheless train on the covered courts of the Academy.

Centre court has been wet all morning long

The centre court of the Mouratoglou Academy was still very wet at the beginning of the afternoon. And the rain was still expected during the afternoon. A long drying procedure would thus have been useless.

Matteo Berrettini was ready to enter the show

Matteo Berrettini braved the rain at the Mouratoglou Academy with his coach. He was supposed to play against David Goffin at 6:30 pm. On Sunday, the Italian will face Dustin Brown at 5:15 pm.

See you tomorrow

Fortunately, the sun will be back in the French Riviera on Sunday. The Ultimate Tennis Showdown will start at 4 pm. Matches that were due to be played on Saturday will be played on Monday.
