Good news for ATP and WTA players worried about having to go into quarantine when they return from the United States after playing the US Open. A decree dated August 7 and signed by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte stipulates that the authorities will only request a negative Covid-19 test not older than 48 hours to authorize an athlete to enter Italian territory.

“In the event of a negative result of the sample, the members of the delegation are authorized to participate in the international sports competition on Italian territory, in accordance with the specific protocol adopted by the sports body organizing the event.”

This no doubt will come as a a relief for quite a few players wanting to participate in the US Open (August 31 – September 13) before returning to Europe to play the European tour on clay. Many players and agents have cited a potential quarantine upon re-entering Europe as their biggest worry when it comes to playing at the US Open.
