Teenager Fruhvirtova continues Charleston run; Jabeur, Osorio Serrano advance

Czech teenager Linda Fruhvirtova took another step forward in her emergence on the WTA Tour as she reached the quarter-finals of the MUSC Health Women’s Open in Charleston on Thursday.
The 15-year-old world No 499, who was given a wildcard into the event, beat American Emma Navarro 6-4, 6-2 to reach the last eight, building on her progress after overcoming Alize Cornet of France in the first round for her first WTA Tour win, when the Frenchwoman retired injured at 4-4 in the final set.
Fruhvirtova will face Astra Sharma after the Australian beat No 8 seed Madison Brengle 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Favourites ease through
Top seed Ons Jabeur and in-form Maria Camila Osorio Serrano took their places in the quarter-finals. Tunisian Jabeur, still chasing her first career WTA title, beat American world No 313 Alycia Parks 6-4 6-0 to set up a clash with Nao Hibino.
Colombia’s Osorio Serrano, who won her first WTA Tour singles title in Bogota last week, came from behind to beat American Christina McHale 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1). She will play rising Danish star Clara Tauson in the quarter-finals.
