Following his win over Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals, Novak Djokovic confirmed that he will take part in the Davis Cup this year.

“Yes, I will play this year and I am looking forward to it. Last year, I was really hoping to join the guys for the finals tournament, but unfortunately they didn’t make it out of the group. It was a very tough group, though,” Djokovic commented.

On 12-17 September, Serbia will face Spain, Czech Republic and South Korea in Group C, taking place in Valencia.

With Djokovic in the team, needless to say, Serbia’s chances to make the Final 8 knock-out stage in Malaga (21-26 November) rise rapidly.

“Knock on wood, I hope that I will stay healthy. In that case, I will be available. It’s true that the schedule is really tough, since we play in Valencia ten days after the US Open finals, but I told captain Viktor (Troiciki) that I will be there. I can’t wait.”

By participating in the Davis Cup, Djokovic would be eligible to take part in the 2024 Olympics, to be played at Roland-Garros in Paris, and to chase the elusive gold medal one more time.

Serbia have already won the Davis Cup once, back in 2010 – and Djokovic has said multiple times that trophy was one of the turning points of his career.
