Tennis in the Land: Alexandrova through to semi-finals

Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 4 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Tennis in the Land by edging out Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang (5-7, 6-0, 7-5) at Cleveland’s iconic Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Flats West Bank on Thursday.

Alexandrova, ranked No 22, will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed, and Chinese Lin Zhu next.

Ahead of her victory, she defeated Romanian Patricia Maria Tig (6-1, 6-4) and Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich (7-6 (2), 6-3).

Wang, ranked No 56, edged out French qualifier Clara Burel (7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5) and won against Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 11 seed (6-4, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
