Roland-Garros: Another maiden semi-finalist as Kasatkina holds nerve to beat Kudermetova and move into last four

No 20 seed Daria Kasatkina moved into the semi-finals of Roland-Garros by defeating No 29 seed Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 7-6 [5] at Stade Roland-Garros in Paris on Wednesday.

She admitted afterwards that she felt a little nervous during the tiebreak as she conceded match points, saying: “The match was really nervous inside, especially the tiebreak – the last few points I was super tired, I’m happy at the end that I won…happy to be in the semis for the first time.”

Kasatkina, ranked No 20, will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and American Jessica Pegula, the No 11 seed, next.

Kasatkina won against Slovak lucky loser Rebecca Sramkova (6-2, 6-0), Mexican qualifier Fernanda Contreras Gomez (6-0, 6-3), American Shelby Rogers (6-3, 6-2) and Italian Camila Giorgi, the No 28 seed (6-2, 6-2), in the previous rounds, while Kudermetova, ranked No 29, won against Chinese qualifier Lin Zhu (6-4, 3-6, 6-3), Serb qualifier Aleksandra Krunic (6-3, 6-3), Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 3 seed (6-3, 2-1 ab.) and American Madison Keys, the No 22 seed (1-6, 6-3, 6-1).
