Roland-Garros: Lucky loser Avanesyan beats Tauson to reach fourth round

Russian lucky loser Elina Avanesyan edged out Dane qualifier Clara Tauson 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 to reach the last 16 of Roland-Garros in Paris on Friday afternoon.
Avanesyan, ranked No 134, will play the winner of the match between Czech Karolina Muchova and Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 27 seed, next.
The 20-year-old Russian edged out Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 12 seed (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) and won against French wildcard Leolia Jeanjean (6-0, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Tauson, ranked No 127, beat Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-2, 6-0) and edged out Canadian Leylah Fernandez (6-3, 5-7, 6-4).
