Roland-Garros: Halys scores Machac upset, advances to second round
Quentin Halys benefited from the abandonment of Tomas Machac (7-6 (4), 4-1) on Sunday evening and will face the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and Argentinian Sebastian Baez in the next round

Frenchman Quentin Halys moved into the second round of Roland-Garros when No 21 seed Tomas Machac retired at Roland-Garros in Paris on Sunday evening.
Halys, ranked No 50, led 7-6 (4), 4-1 when Machac, ranked No 21, retired on Sunday evening at Roland-Garros in Paris due to a lower back injury.
“I was playing well, and unfortunately I got injured during the tiebreak,” admitted Mahac.
“Afterwards, I could not play and it was getting worse and worse, so it is what it is. I think the whole body is connected, so if you get [another] injury, it’s always connected, and showing me that my body is not healthy right now.
“It’s a different injury. In Geneva, I got pain in my left leg and I was cramping. This time, I wasn’t cramping, I just blocked my back, so the whole body is connected and I need to take care of my whole body now, and let’s see how it goes now.
“I need to go and do some kind of tests to check the details all around my body, and some back tests. I need to take care of my situation, everything that is going on in my body now, so let’s see, this is my plan. Right now, my focus is on Wimbledon and no other tournaments right now – let’s see.”
The Frenchman will face the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and Argentinian Sebastian Baez next.
