American Madison Keys, the No 7 seed, beat Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the third round of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris on Thursday evening.
Keys, ranked No 8, will play the winner of the match between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka and American Sofia Kenin, the No 31 seed, next.
The American won against Australian qualifier Daria Saville (6-2, 6-1) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Boulter, ranked No 38, defeated French qualifier Carole Monnet (6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1).
