Roland-Garros: Schmiedlova beats lucky loser Bolsova to reach third round

Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova advanced to the third round of Roland-Garros by beating Spanish lucky loser Aliona Bolsova 6-3, 6-4 in Paris on Thursday.

Schmiedlova, ranked No 100 in the world, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Kayla Day and No 20 seed Madison Keys next.

This is the third time in her career that Schmiedlova has reached the round of 32 in Paris. She will be attempting to make the fourth round at a Major for the first time on Saturday.

Ahead of her victory, the Slovak won against Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 11 seed (6-3, 6-1).

Bolsova, ranked No 131, won against Slovak Kristina Kucova (6-2, 6-1) in the previous round of the French Open.
