German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed, moved into the last 16 of Roland-Garros by beating American Brandon Nakashima 7-6 [2], 6-3, 7-6 [5].
Zverev, ranked No 3, will play Spaniard qualifier Bernabe Zapata Miralles next, who got a stunning win over John Isner earlier in the day.
Ahead of his victory, the German won against Austrian qualifier Sebastian Ofner (6-2, 6-4, 6-4) and produced a stunning comeback to beat Argentinian Sebastian Baez (2-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5).
Nakashima, ranked No 75, defeated Pole Kamil Majchrzak (6-4, 2-6, 4-6, 7-6 [3], 6-2) and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (7-6 [6], 6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the French Open.
