Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, defeated Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 12 seed, 6-2, 6-1 to win the Roland-Garros tournament at Roland-Garros in Paris.
Ahead of her victory, Swiatek, ranked No 1, beat French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean (6-1, 6-2), Japanese Naomi Osaka (7-6 (1), 1-6, 7-5), Marie Bouzkova (6-4, 6-2), Russian Anastasia Potapova (6-0, 6-0), No 5 seed Marketa Vondrousova (6-0, 6-2) and American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed (6-2, 6-4).
Paolini, ranked No 15, defeated Australian Daria Saville (6-3, 6-4), American lucky loser Hailey Baptiste (6-4, 7-6 (6)), Canadian Bianca Andreescu (6-1, 3-6, 6-0), Russian Elina Avanesyan (4-6, 6-0, 6-1), Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) and Russian Mirra Andreeva (6-3, 6-1) in the previous rounds.
