Roland-Garros: Teichmann makes Slam last 16 for first time ever, knocks out Azarenka

Swiss Jil Teichmann, the No 23 seed, edged out Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 15 seed, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 [5] in an engrossing epic to reach the last 16 of Roland-Garros.
With the clock at three hours 18 minutes, it was the longest match of both players’ careers so far.
Teichmann, ranked No 24, will play American Sloane Stephens next.
The Swiss won against American Bernarda Pera (6-2, 6-1) and Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic (6-4, 6-1) to reach the third round.
In the previous rounds of the French Open, Azarenka, ranked No 15, defeated Romanian Ana Bogdan (6-7 [7], 7-6 [1], 6-2) and German Andrea Petkovic (6-1, 7-6 [3]).
