Former world No. 3 and current ATP No. 21 Grigor Dimitrov has officially pulled out of the US Open (August 24 – September 7), tournament organizers confirmed on Tuesday. The 34-year-old Bulgarian, who has been dealing with a right pectoral injury since his retirement against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon, will miss the entire US hard-court swing.

His withdrawal had been expected for several weeks, following comments from his manager suggesting the injury would not heal in time. It is now official: Dimitrov will not contest the final Grand Slam of the season.

The Bulgarian has not played since his Wimbledon fourth-round match, which was cut short while he led two sets to love against eventual champion Jannik Sinner. Persistent pain also forced him to skip the Masters 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati.

This absence brings an end to a remarkable streak of 58 consecutive Grand Slam main-draw appearances, which began at the 2011 Australian Open.

As a result, Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo, initially slated to play the qualifying rounds, will now gain direct entry into the US Open main draw.
